New contract with Firefly ensures Abacus-Connected agents have access to the largest LCC and Hybrid portfolio in Asia Pacific

Abacus International, Asia Pacific’s leading revenue partner for airlines today announced a new partnership with Firefly, a wholly owned subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines.

This partnership will bring more content to all Abacus-connected travel agents in February as they will have real-time access to all of Firefly’s flight schedules and fares, while allowing Firefly to leverage Abacus’ extensive network to reach out to their consumers and boost their presence throughout the region.

Firefly is the latest agreement following a series of exclusive announcements with other LCC/Hybrid airlines such as Starflyer, Air Busan, Far Eastern Airlines, Juneyao Airlines, BB Airways and Regent Airways, and cements Abacus’ position as the leader in LCC and Hybrid content.

The agreement will also see Firefly upgraded onto the Abacus AirBasic platform, the leading Abacus solution for LCCs that is currently used by airlines such as AirAsia and Sapsan. Abacus AirBasic is an XML based solution that allows LCCs to effectively leverage Abacus’ agency network to drive booking transactions as well as sell ancillary services through efficient booking masks. With Firefly’s fleet set to expand in the coming year, the partnership will help the airline grow in key markets such as Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra Indonesia, Southern Thailand and Singapore.

“We are delighted to work with Abacus to provide our customers with a simplified booking process,” said Mr Ignatius Ong, CEO, Firefly. “With access to information like seat count and fares, staff at the travel agencies and our air reservation offices are relieved from manual work and are able to focus more on personalised customer service.”

“Abacus is honoured to have been chosen by Firefly during this very exciting period,” said Ho Hoong Mau, Division Head, Airline Distribution, Abacus International. “We believe that with the right solutions as well as our extensive network across Asia, we are best placed to help to ensure Firefly succeeds in reaching out to an even wider group of customers.”

Firefly currently flies to domestic and regional destinations in the ASEAN network serving 24 routes within Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia. Firefly which lies midway spectrum of a full-service premium airline and a low-cost based airline, offers pricing with values that significantly undercuts its competitors by providing the ease of a city airport, 20kg checked baggage allowance, complimentary in-flight refreshment, a 30 minute check-in buffer, web check-in facility – all essential needs for business travellers and holiday makers alike.
