Date: Tuesday, 11 December 2012

Abacus International, Asia Pacific’s leading provider of travel solutions and services, signed an agreement as the joint title sponsor for the Kowloon Rugby Football Club (RFC). The sponsorship will see the club renamed to Abacus Kowloon Club.

Speaking on the sponsorship, Ms Winnie Lau, General Manager of Abacus Distribution Systems Hong Kong said, “We are proud to be a sponsor of the Abacus Kowloon Club. The Hong Kong Rugby Sevens is one of the greatest and most anticipated sporting events in the world. Each year, over 10,000 overseas visitors come to Hong Kong to join in the games, giving the Hong Kong travel industry a boost. The Abacus Kowloon Club displays a lot of the attributes that we identify with at Abacus. Their commitment to excellence in the league and strength of the team is something we feel is important for us and reflects our approach to doing business at Abacus.”

Abacus Kowloon President Anson Bailey said he was delighted at the partnership that has been forged between Abacus and the club. “We are proud to carry the Abacus brand as part of our club name. We believe the partnership will enable both companies to grow our respective businesses.”

The Abacus Kowloon Club won the Hong Kong League Premiership early this year in a closely fought and tight battle throughout the season, which was only determined on the last day of the season. Having successfully guided their way to the Grand Championship final, Abacus Kowloon fell to arch rivals Hong Kong Football Club.

The Championship remains a goal that is firmly on the cards for Abacus Kowloon for the 2012/13 season, and they have much to look forward to. Team captain Tom McColl, back after graduating from Cathay Flight School, takes the reins again for the forthcoming campaign. Veterans Eni Gesinde and Cadu Li, part of Hong Kong’s victorious Asian Sevens Series squad, also look to help Abacus Kowloon reach the sixth edition of the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Moscow 2013. In addition, The Hong Kong training squad for the Christmas Tour includes seven Abacus Kowloon men, to participate in the upcoming National XV Winter Tour to Dubai for the Emirates Cup of Nations in December.

“The sponsorship was an easy decision for Abacus as we seem to have many things in common with Abacus Kowloon RFC. We are both leaders in our respective fields, and we both continually strive to achieve more, whether that is through greater innovation, dedication, persistence and experience. We hope that through this partnership, we will be able to further promote rugby in Hong Kong as well as further grow the Hong Kong travel industry, “ Ms Lau concluded.
