Air Astana Awards Competitive Booking Source Status to Abacus - First GDS Qualified for the Airline’s Competitive Booking Source Programme
Asia's leading revenue partner has further established its market leadership position in the region by signing an agreement qualifying Abacus as a Competitive Booking Source for Air Astana.

This enhanced partnership brings Abacus-connected travel agents a host of benefits, which includes complete access to Air Astana’s full flight information and fares as part of its Competitive Booking Source (CBS) programme, without being subject to the Commission Booking Deductible (CBD) that will accompany non-qualified GDS bookings beyond 01 January 2011.

Speaking at the official signing ceremony in Kazakhstan, Mr. Robert Bailey, President and CEO of Abacus International, said the company was proud to be the first GDS to qualify for Air Astana’s CBS programme.

“Kazakhstan is a very important market for Abacus and recognition by its national carrier solidifies our position as a travel leader in Asia. To encourage the market to promote travel with Air Astana, we will be launching a series of attractive promotional campaigns where Abacus-connected travel agencies will be rewarded for bookings made,” said Mr. Bailey.

Abacus and Ground Asia Bring Travel Agents Reliable, Secure and Efficient Transfer Services
Abacus connected travel agents can now gain access to reliable, secure and efficient ground travel and airport services in 500 airports and cities across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and North America as a result of a new partnership with Ground Asia.

Over 6.3 million travellers are expected to benefit from this partnership, with the highly sought- after personalised services including post-paid chauffeurs, fixed-price airport transfers and fast-track immigration assistance, to become available on Abacus’ network via Abacus eServices with immediate effect.

Research by Ground Asia estimates that 15.7 million Asian corporate and high-end leisure international fliers spend USD2.3 billion a year on ad hoc ground transfers (such a airport limos, private hire car, hotel limos or chauffeur drive) for their journeys to and/or from airports and around cities.

Taobao.com Adopts Abacus WebConnect for its One-Stop Travel Platform
Taobao, Asia’s largest online retail platform recently adopted Abacus WebConnect (Internet Booking Engine) enabling the search and display function of fast-changing flight availabilities on a real-time basis.

Abacus Brunei Celebrates 20 Good Years
Over at the Borneo region, Abacus Brunei celebrated its 20th Anniversary with an Appreciation Night on 7 Aug 2010.

The event which was held at Grand Stone Ballroom, Centerpoint Hotel saw partners of Abacus Brunei and its travel agents coming together. Themed Red and Black, the participants came gamely dressed in their best red and black to celebrate the success of Abacus Brunei and congratulate the top travel agents in Brunei.

Abacus Brunei was honoured to invite the presence of Guest of Honour, Dato Paduka Haji Alaihuddin, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Communication, Brunei Darussalam. In the welcome address to the participants, Mr Robert Yang, Chairman of Abacus Brunei & Chief Executive Office of Royal Brunei Airline remarked on the increased passenger capacity which reflected the positive growth of the industry.
Ms Irene Soon, General Manager, Abacus Brunei also took the opportunity to thank travel partners for their strong support over the years.
