A fortnightly newsletter brought to you by Abacus, your Asia Pacific revenue partner.

Greetings from Abacus Airline Division
Mr Ho Hoong Mau, Director

As we close the door on what has been one of the most challenging year for the travel industry, our industry has clearly gotten leaner and is poised for growth with the recovery in end demand. Across the Abacus channels, we are seeing encouraging signs of demand stabilization and patchy growth. Airlines are now focused on driving better yields given that loads have generally recovered and this is the start of the crucial second stage of the recovery process toward profitable growth.

While a few sparrows do not necessary indicate the arrival of spring, Abacus is determined to help airlines stimulate demand and drive revenue growth through our various partnership platforms with airlines. You will be hearing regular snippets about how Abacus has added value as the revenue partner of Airlines in the coming issues. Meanwhile, I would like to wish all our Airline partners success, joy and good health in the New Year.

Getting Employees To Travel Greener

As the world’s leading online business travel technology, Abacus GetThere offers a functionality that allows corporations to integrate green policies in their managed travel programs. Abacus GetThere Green enables companies to put together their carbon emission data and supplier green status to deliver relevant messaging at the point-of-sale. These messages serve to educate travellers about the carbon footprint of their journey and impact choices they make in the booking process.

In the last decade, ecotourism has exploded as a travel trend to an astonishing 11.4 percent of consumer spending worldwide [source: GDRC]. Ecotourism or ecological tourism has two primary goals: to minimise the environmental cost of tourism in general and to actually provide ecological benefit to the travel destination. Carbon emissions are known to be a major cause of global warming and climate change. The fact that global warming exists and that humans are speeding up global warming mean we have to start thinking about our impact on the environment and help reduce the effects of global warming.

Each year, corporations spend millions sending their employees on various endeavors. The National Business Travel Association (NBTA) says environmental awareness has reached the forefront of the U.S. travel industry. Hence, many corporations are being asked to consider how to minimise the environmental impact of their trips.

What is your company doing to reduce the impact on the environment? Find out more how Abacus GetThere green supports your company to implement greener policies.

South Atlantic TPM Exemption

The South Atlantic TPM Exemption project has been successfully loaded onto the Abacus SmartPrice system. Having completed this enhancement, airlines can look forward to creating configurable content table and using the associated logic to handle the South Atlantic TPM Exemption.

This enhancement also allows our system to cater to IATA mandate as well as carrier preference. Click here for more information about the enhancement.

Removal of L/Mandate Mileage Principle

Whenever a journey is made between Europe and Japan/Korea via China, IATA mandates a requirement to reduce 1,000 mile from the total MPM. However, airlines will be pleased to know that Abacus SmartPrice is now enhanced to automatically remove this MPM deduction of 1,000 miles.
